B’nai Mitzvah

The offices of the Rabbi and Principal coordinate Temple Beth Tikvah’s B’nai Mitzvah Program. Approximately six months prior to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah, we train students to:

  • Lead Shabbat prayers
  • Read and chant Torah and Haftarah
  • Analyze and study Torah
  • Implement a personal mitzvah project
  • Prepare a Bar/Bat Mitzvah speech

This meaningful experience helps each child develop a lifelong Jewish identity. In addition, family members participate by reading from the Torah during the service to make the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience a memorable “family affair.” Rabbi Meeka is available to assist in this process.

We also provide individual or group adult Bar/Bat Mitzvah courses upon request.

B’nai Mitzvah Practice Siddur

The Religious School Practice Siddur below contains selections from Mishkan T’filah—Temple Beth Tikvah’s siddur—that children and families use during Bar/Bat Mitzvah services. The Practice Siddur presents the selections for each grade level in the context of the prayer book. To learn the selection for the service, you can view/download a PDF of the specific text, and an audio recording of Rabbi Meeka or Cantor Emeritus Charles Romalis chanting the selection in Practice Selections below. You can download the PDF Practice Siddur, or view it in the panel below.

Practice Selections

The list below contains Bar/Bat Mitzvah practice selections for each grade from the Practice Siddur. Each selection includes an audio recording of Rabbi Meeka or Cantor Emeritus Charles Romalis chanting the selection so that you can follow along to learn pronunciation and melody.
