Ongoing Fraud Scam In Our Area

Our Jewish Communal Security network has recently developed information regarding an individual involved in a WhatsApp scam targeting multiple Jewish organizations. This person goes by the name of Edaan BROOK. He leverages Jewish WhatsApp groups to request money from individuals. Upon acceptance into the WhatsApp group, BROOK sends private messages or places phone calls stating he “needs help for Shabbos,” or is close to finding housing, or has recently lost his job. Based on reported incidents, we have no reason to believe his requests for assistance are legitimate. At this time, our security partners are aware of multiple people who have fallen victim to his alleged scam and have sent him money. Of note, BROOK is fluent in Hebrew and well acquainted with Jewish traditions, which has facilitated his efforts. BROOK is a self-acknowledged member of an organization called “The Daylife Army,” which describes itself as a “cult,” and uses the moniker “Daylife Jesus.”
