At Temple Beth Tikvah, we believe that everyone should be able to fully participate in Jewish life, feel welcome in our community, and experience a true sense of belonging. That’s why we’re launching a new Accessibility Initiative. Our goal is make TBT a place where people of all abilities can worship, learn, celebrate, connect, and contribute with greater ease and confidence.
Accessibility is more than ramps, doorways, or accommodations. It’s about listening, removing barriers, and creating a community where everyone can their whole selves. As we move forward, we’ll be looking at our building, programs, communications, and practices through an accessibility lens and, most importantly, listening to the people who know these needs best.
This is an ongoing journey, and we know we won’t get everything right immediately. But we are committed to learning, improving, providing additional gateways for people to fully participate, and making meaningful changes along the way. Because accessibility isn’t an add-on to community. It is part of what makes a community whole. Contact the MiSheBerach Committee Chair.
What we currently offer:
- Weekly calls to members observing a yahrzeit (anniversary of loved one’s death) to remind them of the Shabbat service time and offer to read their loved one’s name in a different week if needed.
- Calling people on the Mi Sheberach List (Healing List) and/or the person who added them to the list at least once a month to remind them that TBT cares.
- Yahrzeit letters snail-mailed as reminders.
- Offering a meal chain for families recovering from illness, houses of mourning, etc.
- Shofar visits during the High Holy Days to congregants who cannot hear the shofar in person.
